George Wallace
McNeill was born June 25, 1876 and he is my
mother's, mother's father. He and his wife,Harriet
Telford
, were from the
Shawville, Quebec area and they left there together to homestead in the
western provinces of Canada. They first homesteaded in Dauphin,
Manitoba, before moving on to Provost, Alberta, where George started a
Hardware Store in 1908. In 1909, he gained recognition from the Massey
Harris Company, in the form of a gold watch, for selling the most farm
machinery for that year.
They had four daughters, together and
their names are Eleanor, Mamie, Florence and Jeannie-Belle.
George passed away December 21, 1936, at
the age of 60. Harriet McNeill lived out her life in Springburn,
Alberta, before moving to her daughter Mamie's home in Edmonton. She passed
away in 1950.
